I'm Free!

..from that infernal cast. Of course I forgot to take that photo of the dead skin, but we're probably all better off without that image on the retina. The hand is even stiffer than it was three weeks ago, and basic chores are somewhat painful, but it's one of those "good pains" - for now. Doc said to do some simple exercises the next two weeks and I should be fit for fight again.

Speaking of which, yesterday was the annual club championships at the kung-fu school. I participated in the forms category (people call it 'Kata' - which of course is Japanese) and I thought I did a pretty good job - but at least three did better, so no prize for me, but never mind that -it was a good event and everybody enjoyed themselves.

As an experiment it was a mixed event of young and old. The kids were unable to retain concentration for the full duration, but they sure are skilled - and the benefits of starting at a young age really shines through when you see one of those little buggers do an effortless split - an exercise I haven't mastered yet :o(

Global Warming Time-out!

picture displaying trains being late
From tv2.dk. Note the 7h24 delay

Wednesday Denmark got a healthy dose of snow storm. Considering the northern latitude, this should probably not come as a big surprise in February, but somehow it always does - especially to the Danish Railways.

Wednesday evening they actually announced, that they thought people should seek other means of transportation and of course local Police thought people should not to go out unless absolutely necessary.

Back on Bornholm, I seem to remember, that we got about half a meter's worth of snow in a snow storm every other year, roads and schools closed and the like, but I don't remember people panicking over it the way they do in Copenhagen?

Getting on buses and trains is a nightmare with all those morons standing in the way, too busy worrying about themselves to notice that they're obstructing what could have been an easy flow. I mean, if they're so concerned about being late for whatever they're late for - work presumably - maybe they should've got out of bed half an hour earlier?!

At any rate, we've been promised more snow today and on Friday it'll all disappear - that'll be the end of this winter.

Long time .. again

It's been a while. Not that I haven't had much to write about - well I guess I haven't had that much - but lately I haven't had the energy to do much on the blog. The same seems to be true for my sisters (taunt, taunt), can't wait to hear their excuse..

Mine is of a personal nature, as Kimie and I have spent January apart to "think things over", and that resulted in us splitting up last week. We've been together almost 8 years, so it's a pretty big decision. But we both agreed that this is the right thing to do and we're perfectly good friends. Doesn't make you feel good, though :-(

On other bad news, today my cast came off - my "sprained" wrist, if you recall - for about an hour. Appearently (and I think based on my indicating that I felt a little sore) I'm one of the 50% slow healers and need to go the full duration of the "8-12 weeks" that the manual dictates for my particular injury. I tried doing a little exercising while waiting for the X-rays and it was quite a shock to see how stiff my joints have become in just two months. The thumb was more or less reduced to one movable joint and my wrist doesn't bend more than 15° either way. And the old skin ... I'm telling you it's gross. Of course I forgot to take a picture, but I'll remember in three weeks when the cast comes off for good.

And it seems I'm going to Bahrain to see Leah and Carsten in March. The parents have booked tickets for the 4th and Karina and I get to join them. Karina has an exam that may come in the way, so I'll probably wait and see what she finds out before getting tickets, but around the 4th and a week ahead seems plausible.

And my good friends Jesper and Kianna have invited me to Oregon, so it seems I'm going stateside around Easter. Hopefully I can arrange for a week off at my own expense :o( and stay two weeks. And maybe the snow hasn't completely vanished, so I can get to ski just a little this year.

Peace out.
