Well, In hind-sight, going to the Capital of Catholicism during Easter, which is like Christmas, New Years and next year’s Christmas combined for us non-believers was probably not the best idea. People were everywhere, and to make things worse, things would close at every odd hour to conduct service or whatever.
But weather was a lot better than various weather services had promised. a nice 17-22°C, somewhat cloudy and hazy at times, but generally nice and spring-like. Rome in the summer can be excrutiatingly hot, so being Scandinavian and all, we couldn’t be happier.
On the plus side, Rome on Easter Day is actually a very pleasant. There was hardly any traffic, and since everything is closed, all the tourists stay out of the way too. We had a nice stroll down Via Appia Antica. Of course the catacombs were closed like everything else, but the hike was a nice one, and we concluded the day with a visit at one of the old Roman Baths, those of Caracalla
You would not believe how big those ruins are, when walking inside. At the time of their construction around 100 AD, I guess we were still having trouble keeping our clay huts standing.
